Beartown State Park is located a few miles north of Lewsiburg and a few miles south of Snowshoe. It’s a 110-acre natural area known for its unusual rock formations, massive boulders, and overhanging cliffs. People travel from all over the Mid-Atlantic region to witness the serene beauty of Beartown State Park located in southern Pocahontas County. The Park is actually one large rock formation split into sections and clefts large enough for walkways.
Camping, geocaching, and hiking
Explore nature with one of these three adventures. The boardwalk is half a mile that can be accessed from the main parking lot.
The name for the park comes from residents claiming that many cave-like openings in the rocks made ideal winter dens for black bears.
The park is open from April to October. Off season access is available by appointment only.
