Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad Mountain Rail Adventures feature vintage rail excursions from late spring to the end of fall each year in West Virginia’s remote wilderness of Pocahontas County. Re-live the history of authentic steam-powered locomotives at Durbin and Cass. The adventure excursion takes you through the beautiful Monongahela National Forest and West Virginia state park lands that can only be brought to you by RAIL!
The Durbin Rocket, is “Best for Kids!” It is a steam-powered locomotive which follows along the Greenbrier River. At one point, the locomotive was used to haul timber, and is only one of three operating locomotives of it’s kind. Durbin Rocket takes you on a two-hour trip which is optimal for children. The passengers are able to travel freely throughout the train, and younger kids tend to enjoy the caboose most.
Cass Scenic Railroad
Cass Scenic Railroad is only 29 minutes from Rocket. Here you can experience the world’s largest collection of coal-fired Shay locomotives. The equipment is preserved and rail trips from the historic town of Cass offer some of the most beautiful views of West Virginia!
